Kashmir titbits

Geology

Srinagar is placed at the centre of Kashmir Basin. Kashmir basin is an unique plot of land in between two colliding mountain plates namely the great Himalayan range in the north east and Pir Panjal range in the south west.Himalayan mountain range is the younger one crashing against the Tibetans plateau.

The tethys sea which was in between ,dried up ,shrivelled and got merged with the shivalik and other mountains.

During the last Ice ages the Kashmir Basin had glaciers fed huge lake.
